1、 How to determine whether the aluminum profile extrusion mold is qualified? If one of the following situations occurs, it can be judged as unqualified:

1. The aluminum profile mold produced on the machine extrudes less than 20 aluminum rods, resulting in unqualified products;

2. The aluminum profile molds produced on the machine are not up to standard (such as opening, closing, and feeling at the ribs). However, if the mold is specially purchased due to delivery time reasons, it will still be judged as unqualified;

3. Returning to the furnace for aluminum profile molds, if the cumulative number of extruded aluminum rods produced in two machine runs is less than 20 molds.


2、 Aluminum profile molds that have one of the following situations will not participate in the assessment:

1. Scratches or scratches caused by slag in the aluminum rod;

2. During the handover of two shifts, the aluminum profile molds handed over will not participate in the assessment in the handover shift;

3. Aluminum profile molds that cannot be extruded due to insufficient rod or mold temperature;

4. Returned aluminum profile molds are produced on the machine in one go.


3、 When quality control personnel judge and record the production situation of molds, they can only use the following terms to determine the reason for mold unloading:

Plan completion, rod completion, rod mismatch or mold mismatch, galling (stringing or roughness), slag breakage, scratches, bevel, uneven surface (convex, concave, arc), deformation of ribs (feel), opening, closing, mold blocking, fast surface (ribs), tearing, squeezing, and returning to the furnace.

In actual production, some molds fail to reach the predetermined production capacity during extrusion, and even fail to extrude less than 20 bars or are scrapped in advance less than 2 times on the machine, resulting in expensive extrusion molds far from achieving their expected benefits. This phenomenon is widespread in many domestic aluminum profile production enterprises, causing great losses. Improving the service life of aluminum profile extrusion machine molds still needs to start from the details. Aluminum profile manufacturers must first do a good job in mold statistical analysis and cost consumption management. Specifically, achieving the following 9 aspects can basically improve the performance of extrusion molds:

1. The working strip of the extrusion mold must be ground and polished before being put on the machine, and the working strip is generally required to be polished to the mirror surface. The characteristics of aluminum profiles require inspection of the flatness and verticality of the mold work strip before assembly. The quality of nitriding to a certain extent determines the smoothness of the polishing of the working strip. The mold cavity must be cleaned with high-pressure gas and a brush, and there must be no dust or impurities or foreign objects. Otherwise, it is very easy to strain the working belt under the drive of metal flow, causing defects such as rough surface or scratches on the extruded profile products.

2. During extrusion production, the insulation time of the mold is generally around 2-3 hours, but it cannot exceed 8 hours. Otherwise, the hardness of the nitride layer on the working surface of the mold will decrease, resulting in poor wear resistance during machine operation and rough surface of the profile. In severe cases, it may cause defects such as scoring.

3. Use the correct alkaline washing (boiling) method. After the mold is unloaded, the temperature of the mold is above 500 ° C. If it is immediately immersed in alkaline water, the temperature of the alkaline water is much lower than that of the mold. If the temperature of the mold drops too quickly, it is easy to crack. The correct method is to naturally cool the mold in air to 100 ° -150 ° C and then immerse it in alkaline water after unloading.

4. Optimize the extrusion process of aluminum profiles. To scientifically extend the lifespan of molds and use them reasonably for production is an aspect that cannot be ignored. Due to the extremely harsh working conditions of extrusion molds, reasonable measures must be taken to ensure the microstructure and performance of the molds during extrusion production.

5. Reasonable surface nitriding treatment must be carried out on the extrusion mold in the early stage of use. The surface nitriding treatment of aluminum profile design can greatly improve the surface hardness of the mold while maintaining sufficient toughness, in order to reduce the thermal wear generated during mold use. It should be noted that surface nitriding cannot be completed in one go. During the service period of the mold, 3-4 repeated nitriding treatments must be carried out, and the thickness of the nitriding layer is generally required to reach around 0.15mm.

6. Extrusion molds should adopt a process of using strength from low to high and then to low. When the mold first enters its service life, the internal metal structure and properties are still in a floating stage. During this period, a low-strength operation plan should be adopted to transition the mold to a stable period.
